FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A PODIATRIST?

Podiatry, or podiatric medicine, is a medical

practice specializing in the diagnosis and

treatment of disorders and abnormalities in

the feet, ankles, and lower extremities. Podiatrists,

often times colloquially referred to as a 'foot doctor',

are the only medical professionals who exclusively

specialize in treating the foot and ankle.

DOES YOUR CLINIC TREAT CHILDREN?

Yes, our patients include children, adolescents,

adults, seniors, athletes, and veterans. Everyone

is welcome at our foot clinic.

IS A REFERRAL REQUIRED?

No, a referral is not required. Give us a call and

we will be happy to book your appointment.

HOW EASY IS IT TO GET AN APPOINTMENT?

Our clinic can typically provide you with an

appointment within a week. West Island Family Foot

Care is not a walk-in clinic, however we try to reserve

time each day for same-day appointments

as well as urgent cases.

WHAT IS AN ORTHOTIC?

Orthotics are insoles custom-made from molds taken

of the feet. Orthotics will correct the way the foot

moves and reacts between the ground and the person's

weight. They will posturally align the feet and the body

while eliminating abnormal forces, which if left untreated,

can lead to problems such as heel or arch pain, bunions,

as well as problems with the legs, knees, hips, and back.
